How to Store Your Flat-Pack Event Gear Like a Pro

You’ve nailed the setup—now what? Let’s talk about packing it down like a seasoned styling legend.

There’s nothing quite like the buzz after a killer event. But once the last guest leaves and the fairy lights go off, you’re faced with the not-so-glamorous part: the pack-down. Luckily, with flat-pack gear, it doesn’t have to be a Tetris nightmare.

In fact, with the right approach, you can pack, store and reset your entire event kit in minutes—without dinging your gear or sacrificing garage space.

Here’s how to store your Clikt pieces (and any other event essentials) like a true pro.

1. Clean Before You Pack

Before anything gets packed away, give it a quick wipe down.
Use a damp cloth to remove surface dust, cake crumbs, grass, confetti—whatever the day brought. Clean gear lasts longer and makes the next setup smoother.

2. Use Protective Layers

Stacking plinths or backdrops? Slip felt sheets, fabric offcuts or foam mats between each surface. This prevents rubbing, scuffs, or chips, especially on painted finishes.

Pro tip: repurpose drop sheets or leftover tablecloths for this—it doesn’t have to be fancy.

3. Label Every Piece

It sounds obvious, but this one’s a game changer:

  • Use painter’s tape or reusable stickers to label panels, edges and accessories

  • Write the name of the item and where each panel connects (e.g. “Cart – Left Side” or “Plinth Top Panel”)

This makes reassembly stupidly fast—even if you haven’t used it in months.

4. Flat = Gold

Stack your gear vertically or slide it flat along a wall to maximise space.
Got a garage, shed, or spare room? Use wall hooks or freestanding shelving to store panels upright.

5. Keep Hardware Together

Any removable parts—like dowels, screws (if used), or signage pieces—should go in a labeled box or canvas pouch. Store them with the item they belong to so you’re never scrambling at bump-in.

6. Create a Dedicated Event Shelf or Zone

Whether it’s a spot in your spare room or a section of your studio, having a go-to “event shelf” means your essentials are always ready to roll. No last-minute treasure hunts required.

7. Don’t Stack Too High

Especially with raw MDF or painted finishes, overstacking can cause bowing or dents. Stick to 4–5 panels high, max.
